2009 Annual General Meeting

Notice of Annual General Meeting 2009

The Annual General Meeting of Stormwater Victoria will be hle at the conclusion of the Stormwater Victoria Breakfast program.

(includes Election of Office Bearers and Committee Members)

Stormwater Victoria invites you to our Annual Breakfast and Tour of The Water Treatment Plant at Melbourne Zoo, followed by the Stormwater Victoria Annual General Meeting.

2009-2010 promises to be an exciting year.

The recent release of a parliamentary inquiry into Melbourne's future water supply provides an opportunity to leverage advances in stormwater knowledge to achieve a greater recognition and utilisation of this important resource. There has been a renewed interest in stormwater at the federal level with the recently announced $200 million stormwater fund, along with stormwater harvesting guidelines being developed.

At our Annual General Meeting, members have the opportunity to nominate for elections to the Stormwater Victoria Committee. Your industry needs your support to demonstrate a growing ground wall of support for alternate ways to manage stormwater in the urban context. The stormwater industry provides a link between a diverse range of urban water and sustainability issues which range from water resource management, climate change and urban hydrology in an altered climate, land use planning and the protection of urban waterways. Over the next year, we will continue to advocate, disseminate information, and develop strong networks to deliver drainage solutions for the future.

Stormwater Victoria invites members to nominate for the committee and contribute to shaping the future.

Saving Water at Melbourne Zoo.
Since 1993, potable water has reduced by 61%, from 373.4 ML to 142.3 ML in 2007

Prior to the mid 1990s, Melbourne Zoo used more than 1000 kilolitres of potable water per day, averaging 570,000 kilolitres per year. This prompted a series of water-saving initiatives.
As a result, the average daily water use has more than halved, with only 380 kilolitres of potable water being used per day in 2007. This drop in water use has also been assisted by their compliance with water restrictions and the commissioning of the Water Recycling Plant.
The Water Recycling Plant captures and treats wastewater from rainfall and Zoo operations and pumps recycled water around the zoo through 4km of pipes. Since it was commissioned in May 2005, the plant has produced 50,000 kilolitres of Class A water for reuse throughout the Zoo.
